6:00 PM - 9:00 PM The FIA is home to the old and new worlds of art, and two worlds of wine are yours for the tasting on this special night. Compare the wines, enjoy tasty food from the area's best restaurants and finish the evening at La Patisserie, a French bakery of delights. Before that, meet South African winemaker Cornel Olivier at the optional reception in the Members Room. Cornel will pour his wines and The French Laundry will provide appetizers. Treat your senses to a divine experience—stellar wines, gourmet food and live entertainment—all inside a striking venue! Complimentary valet parking will be available. 1:00 AM - 1:00 AM Shelter of Flint Raises Homelessness Awareness with Mother’s Day Memorial Cards (March 1, 2010) FLINT, Mich. – This Mother’s Day season, Shelter of Flint will sell Mother’s Day cards to raise funds for its emergency shelter, transitional and permanent supportive housing programs, and its comprehensive services that help get women and children off the streets and into homes and jobs. By purchasing a Mother’s Day card from Shelter of Flint, donors can recognize a loved one and help provide shelter and affordable housing for the homeless at the same time. How it works: • Pick someone to whom you’d like to send a Mother’s Day card. • Donate to Shelter of Flint in honor of your card recipient, making sure to give us your recipient’s address. The amount you give is up to you. • On Mother's Day, Shelter of Flint will mail a hand-designed Mother’s Day card to your recipient showing you helped a homeless woman and child in their name. “This is a unique way for ‘the average Joe’ to make a difference in his local community,” says Gary Haggart, Executive Director. “It lets people give special recognition to someone important in their lives, and does so in a way that says so much more than a regular Mother’s Day card. This year’s "FIVE DAY" Juneteenth Celebration promises to be the best yet to come. As a state holiday JUNETEENTH will take on a new face and mission, celebrated across the city with its main focus on the stage in Riverbank Park and in Flint's Max Brandon Park and our newly added Juneteenth Family Freedom Relay Race and of course "Urban Dodgeball Tournament" on Kearsley Street. We would like you to consider all or any of the following types of support for JUNETEENTH 2010. 01. Make a cash contribution or help with expenses 02. Participate in the African American Independence Day Parade 03. Purchase an ad or name listing in our "Juneteenth Tabloid" 04. Support or take part in "The Parade Route" clean up (June 18th) 05. Field an “Urban Family Dodge Ball” team 06. Enjoy the concerts and activities in the Riverbank Park 07. Sign up for the "Family Fun Freedom Relay Run" 08. Purchase "Stage Time" to make a presentation both live & televised 09. Consider vending space, for business, organization or churches 10. Add an event of your own But most of all, we would like you to assist us in helping the community embrace JUNETEENTH as a multi-cultural means of “Reflecting and Rejoicing” on our accomplishments and the work that still needs to be done by spreading the word. Our mission is small but obtainable, and that is to make Juneteenth celebration in Flint, Michigan a summer destination for people across the state, with your help I’m sure we can.
