The Department of Human Resources Announces a Promotional Examination for the position of:

 

DEMOLITION INSPECTOR
(Level 25 - Local 1600)
Note: Residency with 25 miles of the City of Flint limits is required.

ELIGIBLES:
Permanent, Seasonal or Interim employees of the City of Flint (excluding Casual Skilled Laborers, Golf Course Clubhouse Aides & School Crossing Guards) who have at least six (6) months seniority. (All eligibles must possess the minimum acceptable employment requirements as listed below)
 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Inspects structures to make monetary comparison of repair costs to rehabilitate existing structure versus demolition. Initiates demolition and condemnation proceedings of structures.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Three (3) years full-time paid work experience (obtained over a period of 10 years immediately preceding date of application). FOR THIS RECRUITMENT ONLY - 10 YEAR REQUIREMENT IS WAIVED
2. Work experience must be in general building construction as a licensed contractor, skilled worker or supervisor in charge of construction, or combination of such described experience.
3. Considerable knowledge of all types of building construction and of the standard practices, materials, and tools used in building construction.
4. Knowledge of demolition policy and procedures.
5. Knowledge of BS&A Demolition Program.
6. Knowledge of International Property Maintenance Code.
7. Knowledge of NESHAP and DEQ requirements.
8. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Software and Groupwise email system.
9. Ability to make simple structural computations.
10. Ability to enforce necessary regulations with firmness and tactfulness.
11. Ability to prepare written reports and/or computer generated reports and maintain records.
12. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with architects, engineers, builders, contractors and the general public.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Certified by the State of Michigan as an Asbestos Building Inspector or obtain certification within 90 days of appointment.
2. Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License.
3. Ability to submit to and be cleared by a pre-employment physical in accordance with MIOSHA asbestos worker regulations, including clearance to wear a respirator.
4. Ability to obtain Fit Test Certification with Respirator on annual basis and maintain certification (facial hair & other articles must be maintained in a manner as to not interfere with face seal).

GENERAL

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities. A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city.
